Marketing Tips For Retail Food Business

Although promoting your retail food/meat business needs to be an ongoing endevor every promotional idea does not have to be expensive, some of them cost nothing.

A weekly ad flyer or local newspaper ad is a MUST!!

Here are some ideas.

Create a calendar for customers with your business name and address on it.

Make sure you, and your managers, have business cards and give them out

Join a trade association or organization related to your industry.

Have an occasional drawing for a product or a gift certificate using entry forms.
This helps collect a database of customers’ mailing addresses.

Conduct monthly workshops about products and cooking tips, a great way to demonstrate cooking less popular meat items

Develop a website to showcase your products, services and location.

Promote yourself as an expert by writing articles for local newspapers

Provide free t-shirts with your logo for your employees to wear.

Give away a big prize on one major holiday every year

Join the Chamber of Commerce where you can network with area business owners.

Place ads in local newspaper be sure to reach the non-English speaking market as appropriate to your location(s)

Distribute specialty products such as pens, mouse pads, or mugs with your business logo.

Donate a pancake breakfast to a local soccer team or school team

Ensure the best building signage you can afford, update as business improves

Go to related trade shows

Donate your product or service to a charity event or auction.

Volunteer your time to a charity or non-profit organization.

run a continuity program -dishes, bedding etc- to reward existing customers.

Have a breakfast meeting monthly for randomly selected customers to hear their complaints or wish lists;
Store Manager ONLY to represent you, too many “suits” may intimidate attendees.
Remember…you want honest feedback and most of them will know the manager!!

Pick the slowest day of the week to hold a one-day sale.

Create a Customer of the Month award as selected by your check out personnel.

Marketing is most effective if done in coordination with normal exposure using signage, newspaper ads, displays and radio ads.
